Liza Darroch was in fine form at the Gloucester Marathon, carving 10 minutes off her own club age group record with a time of 4.14.46. Using the race for training purposes, Martin Croucher was the first Cirencester member home, finishing just outside three and a half hours whilst Rupert Chesmore completed the club triumverate to finish, recording a time of 4.26.35. Several members opted to race at the Linda Franks Run, Cheltenham, held over the less daunting distance of 4.2 miles. Ed Morris led them home in 69th position.

News from New Zealand
Stephen Elverd reports from New Zealand between treks:
Nep has just entered us in the Auckland Half Marathon next month. Will send a report. I hope you and everyone are well
and running is going OK. Haven't had a chance to keep up with Ciren news, but hope to do so.
Also, a little anecdote you might want to pass on. Back in September we stayed in a Wellington B&B called Booklovers.
One of the books I picked up was "Conquering the Coast to Coast" by a Kelly Barber. This is an account of how an average guy
got himself fit enough to do the cycle, kayak, mountain run for NZ's premier multisport event. I got a bit obsessed with this
account and I've been going on about the Coast to Coast ever since (might do it for my 50th). Anyway, we were on the Pelorus track
just before Christmas when we bumped into some trampers that we shared a hut with out in the wilderness. One of the guys had a
Coast to Coast competitor t-shirt, so obviously I got chatting to him and said I was looking for a suitably stupid challenge.
"I've written a book on it" he said. "Oh yes, what's your name?"
Wait for it............."Kelly Barber"
News from Africa
Update on Rob Forbes' epic cycle ride from Cirencester to South Africa, see www.tri4africa.co.uk for the full story.
Rob is currently in Nigeria having cycled through Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo and Benin.
He has covered 11,091km to date with a mere 8,000km to go to reach his destination. He hopes to raise £19,000 in total
(£1 for every km travelled) and has already had some £15,000 pledged, including a donation from Cirencester AC.
Rob appears to be in good spirits and eating lots of bananas but doesn't say too much about his running training, somewhat
crucial as the final element of his Tri journey - remember he swam across the straits of Gibraltar - is to run in the famous
Comrades Marathon, all 90km of it!

The third round of the Oxford Mail cross country league, held in frosty conditions at Banbury, witnessed a standout performance from Cirencester AC's Jenny Manners, who finished a superb second in the ladies race. Able backup from Jane Thomas and Nicola Denning helped the ladies team move up to 5th in the overall league standings. The men's team managed an improved performance, led by Adrian Williams who worked his way through the field after a cautious start to finish 20th. Marc Fallows was just 11 seconds behind and with Barry Sampson also making the top 30, and Bill Leggate and Adam Harborrow packing well, the men's team boosted their chances of avoiding relegation with just 2 fixtures remaining. An encouraging number of the club's juniors made the trip to Banbury, with Alex Chantler producing the best placing with 5th in the Under 13 boys race.
At the third round of the Gloucester cross-country league, Jane Wassell led home the ladies team with an excellent 7th place, whilst Jane Thomas continued her consistant form with17th place. Barbara Thomas once again edged ahead of Christina See in the latter stages with the team finishing 11th.
