The past week has seen the welcome return of Jane Wassell to race action, recording a fine age group win at the Castle Combe 10k and a sub 19 minute clocking at the White Horse 5k. She was joined at both races by Alice and Barbara Thomas, with Alice winning a Gloucestershire AAA medal as first junior at the 5k. Keith Firkin sought trans-atlantic competition whilst travelling in the USA and finished a close second at the "Tebs Troops" 5k in Chicago, whilst Ian Davies headed to Cambridgeshire for the Thorney 5, finishing in 43.59. Meanwhile, the Hardwick Sprint Triathlon saw a close battle between Martin Pitts and Bob Ferris, Martin gradually eking out a 2 minute advantage to finish as second super vet. Les Davies produced a strong run to finish 89th, whilst John Evans was again competetive in his age group with a fine second place.

David Wright travelled to Lahti in Finland to represent GB in the World Masters Marathon Championships, and performed superbly to finish 8th V50. Reaching the 25km marker in competition for a podium position, the hot conditions took their toll in the final few miles, although he was able to maintain his form to record a finishing time of 2.54.05. Closer to home, Adrian Williams was the first Cirencester finisher at the Bugatti 10k, finishing 8th in 36.17. Matt Shannon also enjoyed a solid run over the tough course, whilst Stephen Elverd consolidated his position at the top of the club championship with just four rounds to go. Trudy Compton was the first club lady to finish, with a time of 45.28. Click here to see photos from Bugatti.

Neil Dunnage travelled to Lancashire for last weekend's Ironman UK, and produced an excellent performance to complete his debut Ironman in a time of 11 hours, 41 minutes and 34 seconds. After a solid 2.4 mile swim around Rivington reservoir, Neil made light of the challenging 112 mile bike course which climbed over the Penines before descending into Bolton to start the final 26.2 mile run. Taking just over 4 hrs for the marathon distance, he finished 206th out of the almost 1300 competitors to complete the event. Meanwhile, Ian Davies completed the recent March "Spud" Run in a time of 46.06, receiving a 5kg bag of potatoes for his efforts!
