Hopefully all recipients of this newsletter will already have a copy of the first edition. For reasons that will become apparent, no. 2 has been published hot on its heels. Thankfully for all, this edition will be of a more manageable size - this will particularly suit Chris Riches who found the first so riveting that he apparently fell asleep half way through reading it!
PERSONNEL
The committee is made up of people who give up their spare time to ensure that the club runs smoothly. Some have been on the committee for many years and it is pleasing to see some new names percolating the inner circle. For those that are unaware of the make up here it is:-
Chairman: Bob Ferris (01285 677466)
Secretary elect: Elaine Wilson (01285 851773)
Treasurer: Colin O'Hare (01285 653695)
Membership: Tony Curry (01285 650852)
Publicity elect: Chris Sherrington (01453 731287)
Social: Jenny Hill (01285 653733)
Associate member & race secretary: David Edelsten (01285 720421)
Associate member & juniors section: Paula Vass (01285 657245)
Until the club AGM, David Edelsten remains in the role of Secretary and Publicity before those named above officially take over.
The AGM will be held at the Leisure Centre this year, on Tuesday 14 September commencing at 8pm . The committee has announced that all attendees will be bought a drink at the bar. The newsletter editor, having missed the AGM for a few years, will be first in line!
Other matters arising from last week's committee meeting included news that the club's finances are in a healthy state mainly as a consequence of the two very successful races promoted by the club during the year. Membership renewal fees are only feeding back to Tony Curry very slowly. All those yet to renew are asked to address this situation without further delay.
For anyone interested in coaching, the next Level 2 course is being held in Gloucester on 25/26 September and Level 1 on 22 January 2005 . More details from Bob Ferris.
06.06.2004 FAIRFORD FESTIVAL 3k Fun Run
Further to the excellent results from the Wassell family reported last time, Chris Sherrington advises that his nine year old son Jack finished 31 st overall out of the 300+ participants. Well done, Jack. With these results, large turnouts on Wednesday nights at the junior sessions at Kingshill school (about which more in a later edition) and some of the older youngsters now transferring to the senior club night on a Tuesday, the future looks good for the club.
12.07.2004 FRAMPTON-ON-SEVERN 10k
After last year's brutal heatwave conditions, the weather was kind to the runners this time around. The club turnout was a little down on expectations but from those that ran there were some excellent results. Jane Wassell had one of her best races of the year and was agonisingly close to winning the ladies title outright. She lost out to Angie Sadler from Cheltenham by a mere eight seconds. Others to perform well included Martin Pitts, Paul Barlow and Lynn Ferris - the latter two improving their best 10k times for the year by a number of minutes. One welcome visitor was John Leggate the father of Bill and Dan, down for a few days from Scotland .
38 Martin Pitts 37.49, 40 David Wright 37.53, 57 Jane Wassell (2 nd lady) 38.57, 79 Bill Leggate 40.29, 97 Paul Barlow 41.18, 99 Bob Ferris 41.30, 161 Sue Mckeeman 44.44, 167 Kim Ingleby 45.07, 184 Kveta Kroulikova (u/a) 46.11, 200 John Leggate (Perth Road Runners) 47.03, 293 Lynn Ferris 52.14, 360 John Prout 56.13, 436 finished.
If anyone knows one D Rantell, apparently of Cirencester according to the results, please let the editor know. He was 33 rd in 37.34 and would be a welcome addition to the club!

PARTY TIME
The club party to celebrate victory in the Oxford league last winter is next Saturday, 24 July, at 8pm . The venue is the Wright household at 14 Morestall Drive , Cirencester , GL7 1TF (01285 641224). It is very easy to find. From the Leisure Centre drive up the hill, leaving the hospital on the left, turn left at the top, before the roundabout, into Chesterton Lane , after 600 metres turn right into Cranhams Way , the right turn into Morestall Drive is just after a left hand bend and the farm lane turn familiar to many runners. No 14 is situated in the far left hand corner of the cul-de-sac. If in doubt visit www.multimap.com and plug in the post code to get a precise map - the house will be in the red circle.
The best news about the party is that the club has agreed to underwrite the cost. This means that all drinks will be provided, which will include wine, beer and soft drinks. Any peculiar tastes (!) will have to be catered for on a personal basis. There will also be a modicum of sustinence in the form of bread, cheese and other snacks.
All members (and partners) are invited and encouraged to attend - just turn up on Saturday, no advance notice needed. As well as celebrating a great club victory the evening is intended to be a good social gathering in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.
MISCELLANY
Following on from Jenny Hill's illuminating report of the Three Peaks challenge, she managed to get her photograph in the Wilts & Glos Standard atop one of the peaks (looking very fresh it has to be stated) and for good measure appeared in another photograph on the same page with some other familiar faces following the Cobalt Marathon challenge recently held in Cirencester Park. Yvonne Binks organised a Barclays Bank team for the challenge made up nearly entirely of club members with the 10 runners completing the marathon in 2.58.24. Quite what Lloyds TSB, Tim Collings' employers, will think of him wearing a Barclays t-shirt, is a matter for conjecture.
As most readers will be aware, a number of members are based in Tetbury and run with Tetbury Royals. The Royals have their own website www.tetburyroyals.org which is well worth a browse.
Bob Ferris has written the end article for this newsletter as follows:
"GLOS TRIATHLON 31 MAY 2004
I always think it a bit dodgy planning anything for a bank holiday weekend, so I was very relieved to see Monday 31 May dawn as blue sky and sunny. Having coerced some of our fine upstanding young ladies (if that doesn't get me a couple of beers, nothing will) to take part, it was good to have nice weather.
Cirencester had five of our ladies making their debut in triathlon (* Tony Curry was going to be the sixth old woman but chickened out), plus Ian Sadler making his comeback after five years of injury problems and your upstanding, good looking, modest chairman (writer's licence) all taking part.
The swim section consisted of 16 lengths of Brockworth pool followed by an 18k bike around the Gloucestershire countryside, which was mainly flat - there was a small hill at about the 14k point - and a 6k run to finish off, consisting of two 3k laps which again were more or less flat. This triathlon is ideal for anyone thinking of giving triathlon a go; all of the girls said how much they enjoyed the race and look forward to the next time.
Out of 300 competitors, these are the results of our magnificent seven:
22 (overall) Bob Ferris 1.03.09, 52 Wendy Jones 1.06.28, 90 Fiona West 1.10.56, 114 Ian Sadler 1.15.15, 140 Elaine Wilson 1.18.59, 157 Andrea North 1.22.44, 167 Sue Brown 1.28.35.
* disclaimer - the term old woman applies to Tony Curry only and has no reflection what-so-ever on the fine young women from Cirencester A.C."
Remember to forward any interesting articles to David Wright for future publication - preferably by e-mail with a Word attachment but any form will do. In the meantime see everyone on Saturday night.
