NEWSFLASH The Junior Athletics club closed until Wednesday 13th June 2012
The Junior section meet at Kingshill School during term-time on a Wednesday evening with sessions from 6-7pm and 7-8pm depending on the childs age. During the summer holiday when the school is closed, we would encourage any junior wishing to run, to come along along to the senior session at Deer Park School on a Tuesday night where they can run along side the seniors.
The junior section of Cirencester Athletics Club welcomes any child from ages 5 through to early teens. The emphasis is primarily on fun and enjoyment rather than being competitive and hope that they will progress through to the senior ranks to fulfil their potential.
Each week two 1 hour sessions are held depending on the age of the child where various games and running activities are held. During the winter months we use Kingshill School Sports Centre where sprint efforts over short distances, relay races and some jumping events are enjoyed. For the older runners of the group, an endurance group session is carried out most weeks where we run through Cirencester and run some sprints through the abbey grounds or over one of the many bridges that are around. Each week though we always manage to get back in time for a game of bench ball or something similar in the sports centre to end the nights activities.
We have qualified coaches who help out each week which enables us to split the children into smaller groups so they get to enjoy their chosen activity, be it sprinting or jumping in the sportshall or a long run around Cirencester. We participate in the Oxford Cross Country league which is run on the first Sunday of the month during the winter. These races normally take place first on the Sunday morning before the competitive runners of the county take part. The atmosphere is superb with a good team spirit prevailing and everyone encouraging and cheering you on.
Training Night at Kingshill School
No previous running experience necessary, just lots of enthusiasm and a willingness to have fun. Both boys and girls welcome.
Please wear trainers, and shorts and t-shirt underneath a tracksuit, as we may be both indoors and outdoors. A small drink would also be recommended.
The new term for the juniors begins on Wednesday 7th September 2011. Please could all the juniors who intend to join once again, bring a copy of the new application form with them. This will ensure that we have the correct contact details in case of emergency or if a session is cancelled. To bring the junior membership in line with the senior club, for this year, the membership will cover from September 2011 until December 2012.
Due to the popularity of the junior running club we have had to implement a waiting list for this year. Therefore should a junior not wishing to join again please contact me via my email below. Alternatively, if we do not see a junior for 4 weeks from the start of term we will issue the place on a first come first served basis from the waiting list.
